Briefing on the presentation of the Global Ethical Stocktake (GES) – Towards COP30

Meio Ambiente

Next Tuesday (June 17), starting at 11 a.m. (Brasília time), a briefing will be held to present the Global Ethical Stocktake (GES), a joint initiative of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, with support from the COP30 Presidency, the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MMA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.

Inspired by the Global Stocktake of the Paris Agreement, the GES proposes an ethical and planetary listening on the climate crisis, bringing together social, cultural, spiritual, business, scientific, and political leaders in six intercontinental dialogues and self-managed events. At the center of one of the COP30 leadership circles, the initiative aims to bring to COP30 a global synthesis with contributions from civil society to accelerate the implementation of Mission 1.5, which seeks to limit the average global temperature increase to 1.5ºC above pre-industrial levels, the main goal of the Paris Agreement.

During the meeting, a general presentation of the GES will be given, covering it’s objectives, methodology, schedule, and opportunities for participation.

The following authorities and co-conveners will attend the press conference:

  • President of COP30, Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago;
  • Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva;
  • Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General on Climate Action and Just Transition, Selwin Hart;
  • Brazilian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Antônio Patriota;
  • Co-convener of the North American Dialogue, Karenna Gore; and
  • Co-convener of the Africa Dialogue, Wanjira Mathai.

REGISTRATION: To participate, you must register by June 16 via email: imprensa@mma.gov.br. The link to the meeting will be sent after confirmation.
